I have many diabetic friends so I understand how hard it can be to find a decent sugar free cake. Luckily, where I live there is a local cakery that does make a sugar free cake. The first time we ordered it we asked what flavor it came in and the girl at the counter just looked at us and said “cake flavored”, which apparently is hard to do.

Ashlee, definitely Ashlee. She’s dopey and a bit annoying, but she doesn’t make my ass-kicking foot itch, the way Marina does. She’s also well-intentioned, while Marina has a bitchy undercoat that’s getting more and more difficult to hide. Ashlee has nice hair and great skin and, unlike others, she doesn’t constantly scream and screech like a Banshee with a peptic ulcer.

Hey, love the podcasts, just popping in to offer an explanation for the whole ‘How did Blake know about the My Two Mommies presentation?’ question.

Blake actually has three children, two older sons off in boarding school and a rarely mentioned daughter Clarissa (last seen with Matt and Vanessa’s daughter Maureen offering Buzz their condolences after Coop’s death) who should still be in elementary/early-middle school. I could imagine that Emma’s presentation was hot PTA gossip for a couple of weeks and Blake heard about it there.

Of course the writers could have tossed in a throw away line or something explaining all that since they rarely if ever mention that Blake’s kids still exist, but its not outside the realm of possibility.

Ok, I’m going to be an uber geek and say that no way can Blake afford the expensive private school Emma goes to. There was an episode where the high cost of Emma’s tuition was discussed (this was way back in early 2008, I think.) Blake is always broke and trying to make ends meet. And, while Ross was comfortable, he wasn’t Olivia-level comfortable.

I think Blake is just being Blake – gossip central: people talk, she takes it all in and saves it for later. That said, she actually can be trusted.

Emma’s school is private? I thought the whole reason that Doris could could stir up taxpayer outrage over the M2M presentation was that it occurred in a public school.

Blake is so poor that she has to work at Company (even Daisy mentioned the tips had been slow lately), yet she has money to go to a “ritzy” spa (suspend disbelief because that hotel room was so cheap looking with the lowest grade drop ceiling tiles) and to hire Natalia. Typical soap inconsistency.

And I have to say Marina if only because I am the same age as Rob Bogue so that makes it seem less gross for someone middle aged to be choosing between 2 twenty-somethings. If he can do it (on screen and in real life), then…

Yeah…way back when Liv was sick, there was talk about it. I can’t remember who it was, but someone pretty nosy asked Liv if she was still able to afford such an expensive private school for Emma, seeing as she must have such huge medical bills. Liv was pretty annoyed by the intrusive question, but answered yes, she had every intention of keeping Emma in private school.

Chi – “cake flavored” LOL. I figured trying to make something that is delicious because it is sweet/sugary without that element would be difficult. Liz tells me SF cookies taste bad.

Lana – Ashlee for me too. I think she’s beautiful, actually. The one knock on her is Ashlee is generally annoying as hell when not in the company of Olivia. But she’s still better than Marina. Although, superficially, I hear Mandy Bruno is much hotter in person.

Heather – I love it when Liz finds those little things that make me go and re-watch. And I had the same reaction to pin-up Frank.

Morgan – Thanks for popping on to help clarify! Funny you mention Blake’s kids, I had no idea she had a daughter named Clarissa. Does she explain it all? Okay, that was lame. Maybe Clarissa is off at the same retreat as Peyton.

Lana – Liz called it correctly, it was Harley. I figured the same, that if she didn’t see the “press conference” she’d heard it secondhand. And yay, I thought she was trustworthy.

Melanie – Interesting pick up on the public vs. private thing. You guys are going to make me go back and watch the episode. Which isn’t really a bad thing.

Ok first I have to say that the first time I watched that gazebo scene I for sure thought that was it. I mean I really, really thought they were gonna kiss. And this is from someone who didn’t(and still doesn’t) expect it to happen for awhile, so that was like a really well done(not to mention cruel) fakeout.

Dani- I loved your rant about the lack of kissage. I have to say that I agree if it were up to Crystal and Jessica they at least would be at the makeout level now. I am starting to sense that it’s getting awkward for them.
And I find myself coming back to something you said in an earlier podcast about how the writers can’t have their cake and eat it too with the whole “This isn’t a lesbian story, it’s a love story, no labels, it’s treated the same as any other story.” You said that while it’s great that they don’t wanna label it and the fact that they are two women doesn’t matter, but clearly the reason they haven’t kissed is BECAUSE they are women, or something to that effect. You probably said it a lot better than I did cuz you’re like a million times smarter than I am. But I digress. I totally agree with this. I understand the slow burn and that it’s complicated or what not since both have been in heterosexual relationships before this but COME ON. If the fact that they are women wasn’t an issue when they were writing the story then it shouldn’t. be. an. issue. period.
The beginning stages of any relationship are always awkward but I do not see them in the beginning stages anymore and the lack of a kiss doesn’t feel natural like it used to. Two people are so clearly in love like Liv and Nat are(in my opinion) would be comfortable with some sort of physical intimacy by now, kissing, making out, etc.
And the fact that they had the sex talk and agreed it’s something they both want makes it that much more unbelievable that the kissing isn’t happening. I want to believe that they are holding out b/c of JL’s pregnancy but I’m not so sure that was the only influence. This rant was much longer than I intended. Now for some snarky comments…

Liz- Seriously Slutty McAcorn(spelling?) had me LMAO. Where do you both come up with this stuff? Is there a tutorial or seminar of some kind? Because really, I would love to learn from the masters of snarkiness. Hilarious and so true. Who wears that to a kid’s day camp??? Counselor or otherwise really. Totally inappropriate. And how much do I love Blake?? Like really? I have adored her forever, she’s always been a favorite character so not only is it a treat when they actually put her on screen but her reaction to Otalia just made me love her that much more.

As for the unmentionable spoiler…I’m on the fence. I am trying to stay positive and thinking something that important or big wouldn’t be so easily thrown out there like that…but I’ve seen crazier things happen. I don’t like it but I refuse to jump on the ledge. I react to what’s on the screen and until I see it, then there’s nothing we can do.

Sooooo did not intend to write that much, apologize for my diarrhea of the mouth. Dani’s rant sent me on a tangent. Hope some of it was coherent at least. Awesome pod, and you guys rock

I’d pick Ashley over Marina, simply because Marina’s been uber-bitchy lately.Bitchy can be hot, but not her type of sanctimonious bitchery.

The fact that Otalia have yet to kiss has driven me insane. I am now convinced they will not kiss before Nat leaves and maybe will only have a kiss or two before the show ends, and likely, no sex. *begins to cry

Would you rather – definitely Ashlee, Marina would need to grow some eyebrows and learn how to act.

Blake – FTMFW, she has really stepped it up and her complete acceptance of Otalia is wonderful.

So agree with you about the lack of kissing. At this point, it doesn’t feel real. These women have spent so much time together, they are so comfortable with each other, they have had a sex talk, but still no kissing, COME ON. It feels like CBS(asshats) are sticking their two cents in, and are cowtailing to the uber-conservative, Activia buying, demographic. There is only so much face rubbing and eye sex a human being can take, I know that Nat is supposed to be very religious, but when Olivia “Freakin” Spencer is touching you all day long, there is no way you are not reacting to that.

About the infoamous spoiler “that shall not be spoken”, let’s not jump off the ledge just yet. All we have are weirdly worded bits and pieces. We have 5 days of Otalia coming up this week and we should all know what’s up by Friday, we will rant then.

I don’t know about Blake keeping quite. She was the Springfield Blogger after all.

The gazebo non-kiss. I feel like Kevin Kline in A Fish Called Wanda, “DISAPPOINTED!” I had to work late that day and the only thing getting me through was knowing that I would see an Otalia kiss when I got home. But no. At this point, I consider Remy and Cyrus to have had more physical intimacy with each other than Olivia and Natalia.

I didn’t get a chance to comment on the last regular podcast, so I’m going to do it here. Dani, I’m going to have to be a douchebag and agree with Liz(Not that you’re a douchebag Liz.) about hotsnack. It’s gross and I support the ban. Sorry to be so anti-hotsnack.

The rumor. UGH. I’m waiting to see how things play out this week. I’m figuring that when Jessica gets back from mat leave, there will be about four hours of Otalia left to film. That’s a very generous Otalia screentime estimate of five weeks, three days a week and fifteen minutes a day, rounded up. That rumor is just not how I want to spend my last four hours with Oliva and Natalia.

Ashlee or Marina? Fuck it, give me Reva. Marina is just all shades of wrong and Ashlee has been dipped in annoying sauce. I don’t know if Ashlee is any better in scenes with Olivia. She just clomps around with her big booming voice, “HI OLIVIA!” and Crystal Chappell is like, “Jesus, what the fuck?” Then the cameraman whispers to Crystal, “She’s acting. When that loud sound stops, that’s your cue.” Seriously, you would not even notice them airplanes in an Ashlee scene. Although, I would love to see a scene with Ashlee, Lizzie and Olivia, just for the expressions on Crystal and Marcy’s faces.

Yikes! Any singing, nay, caterwauling I might do would surely offend your tens of listeners even more than Dani busting on KZ. Do you really want to court that kind of fallout? (Not to mention REO Speedwagon putting out a hit on me for butchering their classic!)

I’d like to take a moment to express my love and respect for JL. I absolutely think her willingness to stay onscreen as long as possible and take an abbreviate mat leave clearly speaks to her commitment to the story and her general all-around awesomeness as a human being, but… and it’s totally not her, it’s me… her RL pregnancy is killing me at this point! I keep finding myself more worried about who might be helping her up out of that booth seat at Company and silently pleading for someone to please carry all those huge bags/books/plants/etc. for her instead of watching what happens on the actual show! I can’t seem to help that my hyper-sympathy makes me want to hustle her off to the nearest comfortable chair and give her foot rub every time she’s onscreen. Couldn’t they have written in some double ankle injury and put her in one of those Hoveround motorized chairs for her last few weeks of work so she’d at least be off her feet?!

I have to say ditto to the myriad of rants over lack of kissage and the horrible awkwardness of Friday’s farmhouse embrace. As soon as CC leaned in for that kiss? hug? oops I accidentally bumped into you? hey, do I know you? I’m just trying to walk past, pick a side? moment of greeting, I swear I heard that needle being dragged over a vinyl record sound effect in the background. Add my WTF? to the chorus.

My two favorite pod moments: The glee with which Dani said “Or maybe a giant stork is gonna fly down and eat her!” and Liz embracing her violent side to demand the return of pissed-off Olivia “to bust out, hunt down Rafe and beat the shit out of him!” LMFAO.

Ashlee, because now she can totally tell me the correct fork to use when leaving a table in a huff.

Great Podcast – I completely agree with Dani’s no kissing rant, it’s getting offensive. How good would it have been to simply, over the last few months, have these women gradually become more intimate with each other and have their first ‘romantic’ kiss be one of simplicity and ease? A natural progression without hype or publicity, and then with no extended time lapse have their second kiss, and their third. The obvious avoidance of such a lip lock is so glaring that it’s becoming ridiculous. Not to compare the Otalia pairing with that of Bianca and Reese on AMC, but one thing that was decidedly noticeable was how natural their coupling was treated (in the beginning before the Zach thing and I stopped watching), there were kisses when greeting each other, there were romantic kisses and there were kisses in bed in the afterglow of sex. I remember when Lena and Bianca had sex for the first time, it was implied and all you saw was the morning after, with Bianca in bed and Lena, fully clothed, on the other side of the room. I just feel that Guiding Light is trying to have their cake while giving us the finger. At this point they’re no longer building excitement and momentum, but instead making the fans question their true intentions.
P.S.
I would totally go for Ashlee over Marina but I would take Christina over both of them any day!

Dani, Liz super break down again I just love how your minds work. I also think that the writers have now gone way beyond what the safe parameters of propriety are in order to not rush the story. It was a commendable endeavor to tell the story as if it were happening in real time but now I want a soap opera time warp thing to get to what I’m sure we all want, the kissing, the stroking as opposed to the light touching. I want them to give us an inkling that Liv and Nat will find their groove in bed. If this were a story with a man and a woman they would have SORA’ed kids by now.

Wow to the great work by the actresses including Liz Keifer and I’m so glad to see her again as I eally like her a lot. She can flat out act. I loved the way she looked when she talked about Ross during the scenes in Liv’s hotel suite. Crystal is the best, I love the way she throws her head back in increments to emphasize her exasperation.

I can hardly wait for the Bauer bar b que. I wonder if any key people will actually be there to take in the subtlety and or the significance of their arriving together? I also wonder if Frank and Rafe will be there. Awwwwwwwwkward, but hopeful maybe. I keep thinking that a pretty bluebird will fly around Rafe’s head singing we are the world see how we differ see how we fit right in even so. But then I remember that he has consigned them to hell already.

Anyway I’m with both of you on everything but Dani especially about this waiting thing for some kissing. Oh god there’s the sun again and I haven’t been to bed yet, I promised myself I would go to bed tonight oh no last night, there’s no hope for me at all.

Whatever will I obssess over when all of this about Otalia is gone. I’ll go back to my favorite singer piano playing song writing fabulous woman, Patricia Barber. With her as I recall I got to bed by 3 or 4 but then she doesn’t have a gazillion other people all writing stuff on the web about her, some yeah but not like Otalia. Astute observation about the week starting with cake and ending with cake and cakes of different nature too but what about the ice cream Olivia also ordered?

I have used that line about “it’s a soap and this is how soaps are told”. I hadn’t thought about it being insulting or belittling to folks. Sorry. I get the no kissing issue I mean alright already – DO IT! but I do try to find what good there is and enjoy it but come on DO IT. Dani voices my inner demon that does want to just yell it out and over and over again.

Would I rather… Ashlee. Not a difficult choice at all. Come on, give us harder ones.

OK, when do we voice are rage at GL for the pregnancy storyline and the fact that two characters who are in love have not physically shown their love for each other. Your podcast seem to be more truthful about what we feel. I’m sorry the writers are still writing the end to GL – so they should hear that were pissed. On the BPD that don’t want to offend anyone. Well hello, GL just stuck it to all of us and we should be pissed. Nat could have been under stressed and went to a retreat to clear her mind. So what if the end result is that they live happily ever after. GL lost their balls on this. Someone go get a set for JLH and EW and tell them to tell P&G to kiss their ass. Make things right with Otalia. They started out, but really how much face touching. They’ve already braced the old ladies watching. If they didn’t like the five months of hand holding and face touching the old people have already switched the channel. Now lets have a scene like when Phillip put a 1/2 dressed Olivia on the dresser. I hate CBS and all the gushing end result people.

Hey Rekki-
Part of our feeling is that everyone is 100% allowed to have their feelings, say their piece, and not be quieted or “censored” in any way. But, I will say that PaaV has no issue with how BPD wants to run their board. We’re all on the same Otalia team here. The board (Dani and I are both members) has done great things for Otalia and Otalia fans and we really appreciate what they have done. Part of our thing is positivity and fun, especially for other Otalia fans. Fratilia fans though- they deserve a shin kick.
One of the things about being truthful is sometimes calling shit out when it sucks. Being upset about the story we are getting NOW doesn’t take away from the beauty we’ve been given in the past or our appreciation for it.
Frustrations about the pregnancy thing… Like I said in this weeks pod, I’m giving it two weeks. I honestly feel like we’ll have some sort of resolution about the pregnancy in the next two weeks. I just cannot believe that the same writers who put so much into the word choices last week are going to give us some silly Fratilia baby this week. I just dont believe they would do that to us. While I think a pregnancy scare is kind of a cheap and low twist in a storyline that hasnt been cheap or low so far- I’m willing to go with it. Kind of like how I feel about Phillips illness. So, while I feel your upset about todays show, and I’m not trying to quiet you, I would encourage you to just hang on a bit longer. We feel you, we promise. We’ll be there, calling out the stupid shit like we always do, if this does end up the whole story. But its a soap, and things aren’t always what they seem in soap land. This hospital cremated the wrong Edmund last month and home tests arent reliable after ten minutes. I really feel like this isnt what it seems (and I have info that suggests the same). Besides, with all that drinking she’s been doing + Cooper DNA this kid would be born be born with 13 fingers, buck teeth, and a non ironic mullet. No one needs to see that.
The no kissing thing though, I think we have said how we feel about that. Bitches make out! I don’t think thats really P&Gs fault though. Now the gross taste of Pepto Bismol, I’m calling P&G out for that right now. But Im not really willing to place the blame for the no kissing thing on just one persons head.

Can I talk about this week to date (i.e., following Wednesday’s 7/1 show)? I was shouting at my TV the whole ep: so convinced they weren’t going there, so dumbfounded they did…

…and then I went over to BPD, took a dip in the Egyptian River, and SOMEHOW got my faith back, that maybe they didn’t.

Even IF it’s Frankenbaby, I’m convinced that (as the saying goes) “Otalia is Endgame”. We WILL get da kissin’ and lovin’ (BabyDaddy can f@ck himself!), and JL will TAKE OFF any frellin’ fake-bump they’d try to stick on her, just for the occasion of Teh Sex.

That’s my story, and I’m stickin’ to it: Ledge Ho’s, don’t tread on me! (That’s not directed at anyone here, BTW)

tallulah – I see how it is! It’s okay, I’ve come to a creative resolution with Liz re: hotsnack. Let’s just say my powers of negotiation are formidable.

porter – the double ankle injury just slayed me. coincidentally, when my sister was 7 months pregnant with my oldest nephew, she fractured both her ankles and had to be in air casts for the rest of her pregnancy. it can be done!

lana – JL totally deserves some kind of trooper award for continuing to hang in there with oversized bags, potted plants, mixing bowls, and general shenanigans (and NO kissing) for as long as she did. we heart her.

greenivy – my friend Steph will kill me for saying anything positive about Bianca/Reese, but at least they got to kiss normally. That’s all I’m saying. When AMC has anything on you, you’re doing something wrong. I’ll stop there before I go on another rant.

sylvia – yup, they’re beyond stretching credibility for me now. how awesome is liz keifer? I am loving Blake lately, and not just her stuff with Natalia – although that is very awesome. We’ve been saying Natalia needs a friend forever, wish they had done it with more then 2+ months to go, but we’ll take it.

ali – I have ALWAYS dreamed of voicing someone’s inner demon. I think you just made my night/morning!

rekki – believe us, we hate the idea of silencing anyone or forcing someone to think one way instead of how they really feel. I think we’re taking the “wait and see” approach because for us, it’s better than being permanently bitter about this story so soon. you know what I mean? it’s better to be hopeful there’s another twist in story (and signs are pointing that way) than actually think we’re getting a lame (LAME) pregnancy.

that said, you are completely entitled to bitch about what’s actually happening onscreen. because according to GL-land right now, Natalia is pregnant. which – yuck. but we think she won’t end up being so. if she is for real and for good, well, that podcast might just be a 3-hour rant.

you know my stance re: kissing – bitches make out.

JCF – you can have the suit/hoodie! that one’s alllllllll you.

re: paradox land, do whatever you have to do to get by! I wish I could convince my cynical brain that Olivia and Natalia are actually making out all over the farmhouse, but no dice. I need to see it to believe it, you know what I’m saying? And hopefully soon. Like today.

Liz and I are still holding on to the hope/belief that this pregnancy is just a scare. A lame scare, but a scare. If it actually ends up being a for real-for real pregnancy, well….I don’t even want to take a mental road trip right there yet. Cause it won’t be pretty!

a few short comments -
first, I’m with all of you on the Storyline that Will Remain Nameless. I will remain hopeful because we’re in the middle of it all and I need to get through. I particularly like Liz’s take – they need to explain JL’s maternity leave, but they took the low road to do so. Well said. I think there’s a larger message here, much like how they’ve dealt with religion but still feels like the low road.

second – for dani – my partner agrees with you that cc’s comment about a “hopeful” ending is not particularly encouraging. i didn’t quite agree with her or you, but to pass the time, we’ve taken to viewing it through the hermeneutic of the GL-End Game Spoiler Clampdown, aka Actors STFU We Want To Keep a Lid on How We’re Going to Wrap 72 Years into a Nice Bow.

Here’s the thing about the pregnancy story line – I know there’s a whole “team red herring” movement at that other site. I don’t know what the point is. I’m not specifically opposed to a pregnancy or baby entering Olivia and Natalia’s lives…I’m opposed to *any* sloppy, 11th hour contrivance designed to explain JL’s maternity leave. Let’s say there turns out to be no pregnancy, no baby…so what? The stupid, extended delay in Otalia’s progression will have *STILL* taken place.

I can think of half a dozen ways they could have worked around JL’s maternity leave. The writers want to keep some angst happening, and they *need* to find a way to have Rafe come around…why not have Natalia and Olivia finally share their first kiss at the Bauer BBQ, for all to see, and then have Natalia get badly injured in a car accident (on her way home from the BBQ, no less) and fall into a coma that places her in hospital during JL’s maternity leave? This would have 1) been a reasonable explanation for the lack of Natalia scenes (they could have filmed a bunch of Natalia-in-a-coma scenes in advance) 2) illustrated via Olivia a very real issue: how difficult it is for same-sex couples to even visit one another in hospital 3) caused big-time angst among viewers as they watched Olivia fight for the right to be beside her beloved, and kick herself for not having consummated their love when they had the chance, and 4) provided Rafe with an opportunity to see, for himself, that Olivia is ridiculously devoted to Natalia, and a way by which to come to terms with the fact that Nat and Liv belong together. Natalia could have come out her coma (or whatever soap opera injury/illness) when JL returned from maternity leave….just in time for Rafe to tearfully tell her he finally sees that she and Olivia belong together, even if he may never understand it. A plot device like this would have also given viewers an opportunity to see what the rest of Springfield really thinks about two women declaring their love for one another. Personally, I think they’ve totally missed a great opportunity to explore this – who are the homophobes in Springfield? Which neighbors are actually just fine with same-sex relationships? Maybe someone who’s ordinarily decent (like Rick) is skeeved about the idea of Olivia and Nat together. A plot twist such as this one could have brought Olivia back into the world of Springfield, and provided more opportunities for interaction with other characters.

They really missed the boat.

Blake has just told Olivia that Natalia’s not coming to the BBQ (something implicitly has Gone Very Wrong), and that Natalia “doesn’t want to see her.”

Is Olivia Freakin’ Spencer going to go off quietly to corner of the Bauer Estate to weep, or isn’t she going to do one of two things: 1) RELENTLESSLY pump Blake for information, or 2) burn rubber making a friggin’ BEELINE for the FoL?

As soon as I posted the above (kvetch), I finished looking at the clip, and actually listened to the song playing while Olivia is “killing us softly”. The lyrics are ALL about “we’ll be stronger than before” . . . and I climbed back on the Hope-for-FANTABULOUS-Otalia-Happily-Ever-After Express!

…and then I checked some of my usual Otalia sites (the ones where I get Teh Pretty Picspam), and they’re all ledge-diving. Trying to kill my buzz, b*tches!

And the OIBD mood-swings continue…

I’ve listened to all 11 paav podcast and I’ve made a discovery.

Dani is the one who got Natalia pregnant. Stay with me here. Both Dani and Liz have cracked on the wardrobe and props department about their less than stellar job hiding Jessica’s pregnancy. But, it was Dani’s open letter that got the bun in the oven. She told them we were thankful that GL hadn’t written in the pregnancy. That, my friends, was the ammo that the wardrobe and props department needed to get their revenge. Dani also gave them the idea of sneaking into JLH’s office and changing the script. Yes, Otalians, it was Dani, on the podcast, with an open letter.

JCF- I’m still confident that in the end, we’ll see a happy Otalia. However, I’m not so confident that I’ll actually believe the happiness on my screen. No if Natalia’s gone. I’ll let you hear 12 before I continue my arguement, but I plain old do not believe the characters this week. And its going to take a lot to get me back to a place where I believe them.
